Social Anxiety Disorder
An individual that struggles with social anxiety disorder experiences extreme anxiety and feels physical discomfort about being rejected, embarrassed, or humiliated when they are socially interacting with others. Many people with social anxiety completely avoid social interaction or they experience significant anxiety in the social environment. The fear associate with the anxiety creates problems with an individual’s daily life and lasts no less than six months. Examples of this disorder are individuals that fear public speaking, meeting new people, engaging in new environments, or eating in public restaurants.
Separation Anxiety Disorder
Individuals with separation anxiety disorder experience significant fear and/or anxiety about separation from individuals they are close to. The feeling is evident to others as beyond appropriate for an individuals age and creates problems with the individuals personal functioning. An individual with this disorder may excessively worry that they will lose someone they are closest to and may refuse to sleep away from home, can experience nightmares, or be reluctant to go anywhere without the person they are close to. This usually develops in childhood but untreated can be taken into adulthood.
